Homeless Network “Adopts” Ann St.

The Asheville Homeless Network in response to a recent rise in a long existing problem with litter on N. Ann St. has started a litter removal crew on Thursday mornings. AHN meets at 9 am at the rear of the shelter and collects trash along the street and from surrounding properties.

In addition to forming the clean up crew, the Homeless Network released a statement in the form of a handbill to all its members calling for all members to avoid littering and to be vigilant about picking up any litter found on an everyday basis.

A CALL TO NETWORK MEMBERS February 16, 2010

At our last meeting—Thursday, February 11th—the recent rise in issues concerning litter at the A HOPE Day Shelter and surrounding properties was discussed. Asheville Homeless Network realizes the importance of the efforts of Homeward Bound and the A HOPE Day Shelter to provide many key services to Asheville’s homeless population and the need to keep the area clean, not only for the sake of A HOPE’s grounds, but also the relationships we make with all our neighbors in Asheville.

Asheville Homeless Network condemns all littering on and around A HOPE’s property and exhorts all its members to not only make sure that their trash is always properly disposed but also that they will keep an eye out for any trash on Ann St. and do their part to help keep the area clean, even if caused by others.

In addition, Asheville Homeless Network will be meeting in front of A HOPE, Thursday mornings, the same day as our weekly meetings, to form a clean up crew. We will “adopt” Ann St. on those mornings and pick up and bag any litter that might have been missed despite our daily vigils.

Please do your part to help control the litter on and around A HOPE’s property. Thank You.
